Revelling in its status as Hawaii’s only all-suite and villa resort, The Fairmont Kea Lani Maui sis on Polo Beach of the sunny southwest shores of the island. Designed by acclaimed architect, Jose Luis Esquerra, its gleaming white domes, turrests and arches are reminiscent of his other famous property, Las Hadas in Mexico, whilst its 22,000sq ft of water features, including slides, fountains and lagoon-style pools, contribute to its unapologetically tropical ambience. The suites are double the size of average guest rooms and have large, furnished lanais, Italian marble bathrooms and separate living rooms with full entertainment systems.

The private villas, just steps from Polo Beach, tend to be favourites with the rich and famous. Days here go far too quickly, spent either on the lovely beach, in the Spa Kea Lani or an one of Wailea’s three championship golf courses. Evenings are split between the appropriately named Caffe Ciao and Nick’s Fishmarket-Maui.
