Building Four Flyovers in Kochi to decongest the road

Flyovers in Kochi is not a distant dream for Kochinites and traffic may get better soon. As a significant move to decongest the road, PWD Minister V K Ebrahim Kunju revealed that 4 flyovers will come up at Kochi. The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) had conducted the study to build flyovers at Vyttila, Palarivattom, Edappally and Kundanoor junctions at an estimated cost of Rs 1158 crore.

Kochi played a major role in ushering in the development of Kerala and traffic in the city becomes unmanageable during morning and evening peak hours.

Two flyovers each have been proposed at Edappally, Palarivattom and Vytilla junctions. A four lane flyover has been envisaged at the Edappally toll junction. The second flyover at the junction would be a 3 lane one linking Toll junction with the highway in front of Oberon Mall. The metro rail would also be built alongside the flyovers here. At palarivattom, a six-lane flyover has been proposed over the NH bypass and a four-lane one linking either side of the bypass.

The Vytilla junction too would have a similar structure with linkages to the mobility hub. The metro rail would pass above the flyovers at Vytilla. The flyover at the Kundanoor junction would be a six-lane one parallel to the NH bypass.
